Design Goal
The SandFest poster design reimagines promotional materials for the Huntington Children’s Museum’s annual summer festival. The goal was to create a vibrant, engaging design that captures the playful spirit of the event while appealing to children, families, and the wider community. The design aims to emphasize a playful, beach inspired aesthetic that captures the spirit of summer and the hands-on creativity of SandFest. Organic shapes and flowing compositions evoke the natural movement of sand and waves, while dynamic layering adds depth and visual rhythm. The colour palette draws from sun-warmed tones and coastal hues, creating an inviting and energetic atmosphere. Unique typography and type treatments reinforce the sense of fun and curiosity central to the festival’s mission. Overall, the design goal is to reflect the interactive and imaginative nature of SandFest, inspiring engagement, exploration, and a sense of joy.
Key Aspects of Design
Colour: A vibrant summer-inspired colour palette combines warm and cool tones to create an inviting and cheerful atmosphere.
Typography: Custom typography and type treatments were applied to give the poster a dynamic personality while maintaining readability and clear visual hierarchy. Letterforms were adapted to interact with the shapes and layout, reinforcing the playful, child-like theme.
Layout and Composition: The composition guides the viewer’s eye through the poster, balancing areas of visual interest with the hierarchy of information. Layered shapes, dynamic flow, and thoughtful use of scale create a sense of depth while maintaining clarity and legibility for key event details.
